The Brief

Texas Medical Transcription Institute (TMTI) is an online training school for medical transcription. Their target audience is typically women of all ages (18-65+). Some classic characteristics of these women are single, young mothers, military spouses, retirees, or women that change their career often. TMTI wanted an image that conveyed legitimacy in both the educational and medical fields.

The Result

There were several challenges we encountered while designing this logo. The main challenge was the lengthy name: Texas Medical Transcription Institute. After many different design concepts and placement options, we chose to use a hand written typeface representing "transcription." The handwritten typeface softened the overall feel of the logo while complimenting the bold logomark. We placed "insititute" below the handwritten typeface to break up the name and balance out the logo. We used a clean, bold sans serif font in all capital letters to give strength, legitimacy and prestige to the mark.

Another challenge was designing a mark that would be easily recognizable and appeal to their target audience of women while not discouraging men. We chose to use the Texas flag as the basis of the design which quickly gives the reader knowlegde of the location of the institute. We replaced the star used in the Texas flag with a cross which is widely used to represent the medical industry. We used the shield shape to encompass the design giving the mark a sense of security, integrity, and longevity.

The overall result of this mark embodies our design philosophy perfectly, "Bold. Simple. Elegant. Modern."
